Reyes to face Bolanos in Kissimmee! Promoter Félix "Tuto" Zabala, Jr/All Star Boxing will bring the popular series "Boxeo TELEMUNDO" back to the Kissimmee Civic Center with another Puerto Rico vs Mexico showdown on May 16. In the main event, WBO #8 rated lightweight and Latin champion Jose "El Gallo" Reyes (22-4, 8 KOs) will defend his title against Noe "Platanito" Bolanos (20-2, 12 KOs) in a twelve-rounder. Reyes had a "Fight of the Year" candidate last March 28 when he had to get off the canvas twice to finally stop Ivan Valle in round four. Also in action is undefeated jr. featherweight prospect Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. (10-0-1, 9 KOs) and heavyweight Attila Levin (30-3, 24 KOs). Tickets are $20 and $40. Call 407-935-1412. In round two Smith Dropped Torres but was unable to finish him off, but came back in the third round and caught Torres with a right hand that forced Torres to take a knee and and the count of ten. After a victory in February on Miami Beach – Cuban southpaw Elieser Castillo is getting back in the ring on Friday June 6th, 2008 – for the first time in nearly a decade as a Cruiserweight. Castillo isn’t waiting long to get to the top of the division as he gets a shot at the WBC Cruiserweight Latino Championship Belt.
The big event will be held at the James L. Knight Center in Miami. Castillo was supposed to be back in the ring for a tune up fight in West Palm Beach last Friday, but his opponent fell through.
“This is all part of boxing. You have extreme highs and extreme lows,” said Castillo. “We’re not waiting for anyone to give us anything. We’re making things happen and I’m trying to put Elieser in a position, where he can quickly get a shot at the big time again, “said his wife and manager – Karla Guadamuz-Castillo. In the main event of the evening Boca Raton’s Dyah Ali Davis, son of Olypmic gold medalist, Howard Davis showed patience early in round one, systematically breaking down the Straight-up Shannon Miller and dropping him mid way through the round and then again with a crushing right hand that sent him to the canvas for the last time before the referee called the contest over at the 2:54 mark of the first round.
